Step 2: How Not To Get Hacked πŸ›‘οΈ

Watch this video to learn how “phishing” works and how hackers try to trick people into giving away their information.

Click here for the video if it doesn’t show above.

  • Phishing: An email or message from a fake source that looks real, asking you to log in or download something.
  • Malware: Bad software hackers use to spy on you if you click a dangerous link.
  • Rule of Thumb: Legitimate sites will never ask you to send your password via email. When in doubt, go directly to the website yourself instead of clicking the link!

Step 3: The Detective’s Checklist πŸ•΅β€β™€οΈ

Before you trust a message or website, ask yourself these questions:

  • Does it look right? What is your first instinct? Are there spelling mistakes?
  • Is it free? Free offers usually aren’t really free!
  • Is it asking for personal information? Real businesses rarely ask for passwords or secrets over email.
  • Is it a chain email? Messages telling you to “forward this to everyone” can put people at risk.
  • Does the app look right? Fake apps often have sloppy graphics or very few reviews.
  • Is there fine print? Look for tiny text at the bottom. A “free phone” might actually cost you Β£120 a month in the fine print!

Step 4: Spot the Fake! 🚨

Time to test your skills! Work through these 7 examples with your partner. Decide if they are REAL or FAKE, and explain your reasoning.
