⚖️ Session 6: Bias in AI
💡 Key Words Today
- Bias: When information or a decision is unfair, and favors one person or group over another.
- Fairness: Making sure that computers and AI treat everyone equally and make good, helpful decisions.
1. Finger Warm-Up ⌨️
Spend 5-10 minutes practicing your touch typing. Remember to keep your fingers on the correct keys to build your speed!
⌨️ Open Typing Practice2. Can a Computer be Unfair? 🤔
Today we are exploring what happens if an AI is trained with biased information. Just like our corrupted Chickbot from the last session, if we feed an AI bad or unfair data, it will give us bad or unfair answers!
3. The Biased Ocean Cleanup 🌊
Let’s return to the Ocean AI to investigate how bias can show up in the real world. Your task is to experiment with the training data. What happens if you only teach the AI to clean up “round” pieces of trash? Try it and see if the AI becomes biased and leaves all the square or long pieces of plastic in the ocean!
4. Class Reflection 🗣️
We will recap the lesson together. Get ready to share your screen with the class so we can talk through your progress and discuss your thoughts on how to fix bias in AI!
