Yr5 Term 1.1.3 Digital privacy

Welcome to Year 5 Computing — Lesson 3! 🌐

Today we are exploring digital privacy, thinking carefully about what we share online, and considering how different people might view our digital footprint. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Keyboard Warm-up ⌨️ (10 Mins)

  • Click here to warm up your fingers on our typing studio: Start Typing Practice on Ndovu.
  • Focus on correct finger placement and accuracy. Keep practicing until your teacher brings the class together!

Step 2: Video Reflection — Beware What You Share 🎬

Watch the Legends Family Adventure episode below. When the video finishes, answer the three reflection questions. Click “Download Answers” to save your work, and then paste it into your Computing Word document from Lesson 1.

Step 3: Take a New Point of View 👁️

Different situations call for different levels of privacy! As a class, we are going to look at some online profiles from different perspectives.

  • Your group will be assigned a character and a specific “viewer” (like a parent, a teacher, or a stranger).
  • Discuss what is important to that person. What conclusions would they reach about your character’s profile?
  • Decide exactly which information on the profile should be crossed out or kept hidden so that it remains safe for that specific viewer. Be ready to present your group’s decisions!

Step 4: Interland Etiquette Training 🛡️

Now that you know what to hide and what to share, put your skills into action!

  • Click here to play: Play Interland.
  • You may choose to explore the Tower of Treasures, Reality River, Mindful Mountain, or the Kind Kingdom. Pay close attention to the safety messages you are asked to solve!

Step 5: Log Off and Reflect 👋

  • Exit Ticket: Why does “seeing the world from someone else’s point of view” help us decide what is safe to share online?
  • Log out securely and tidy your desk space!
